    Project Description

    Some of us here at Local Motors have decided to volunteer our time in order to make our own race car and race team! Shown are just some of the projects that are ongoing on the car. This race car is being used as a test bed to subject current RF parts to the ruffest conditions on earth, as well as test out some parts that could someday make it onto our production Rally Fighters.
    As always, any input is greatly appreciated, and if you you have an idea, be it what parts we should run, or what the vinyl wrap should look like, we would love to hear it!

    Flitch, Thanks for the bump. There are exciting things happening with the race car, and as soon as I have a few free minutes (of not working on the racecar) I will be creating a new revision of the project

    Good luck, guys as you prepare for the SCORE 250!  Since you've already done a spectacular front flip, are you going to try a backflip this time?!  Seriously, have fun and I'll be tracking your progress during the race. :)

    I'm pretty sure that was Buddy Crisp driving.  Tony (I think) drove it around on the second lap.

    Just watched the "flip" video posted on Facebook!  That is crazy how you were able to keep going.  That was on the first lap?  Sounds like you came in second in the Sportsman class.  Congrats!  What was your time?  Cannot wait for more video.

    To give you an idea of how much work/ hat work was done between the Baja 1000 and the Parker 425 (Next Weekend), here is a broad list:

    Replace Fuel Cell
    Build spot for jack
    Change Engine, Rear Axle, & Trans Oil
    Check Air Filter
    Check And/Or Replace ALL Heims
    Redesign Front End/Shock Mounts
    Fix Rear Brake Lines, and Bleed Brakes
    Front Bumpstop and Slapper
    Front Limiting Straps?
    Front Lower Control Arm Replacement
    Get fuel sender and install
    Increase Rear Spring Rate/Change Valving
    Install fluid storage
    Larger Power Steering Reservoir
    Larger Shocks Front and Rear
    Make a secondary latch for the doors
    Make Trunk Stay Closed
    Move Radiator
    New Larger Rear Shock and Bypass
    New Rear Lower Control Arm Design

    Unfortunately we did not get to pre-run the course this year, but Buddy (Who will be driving the first lap) has run this race many times before, and is very familiar with the course. I will be driving the second lap with feedback coming from Buddy as to where the dangerous areas are. My main goal will be to cross the finish line, as this will be my first time behind the wheel in a real desert race.

    Richard, The Front Nose Cone, Belly Scoops, Rear Fenders, and Rear Bumper are all carbon on all the GEN 1 RF's. Because the Race Car started its life as a GEN1 (it was actually one of the first 5 RF's ever built), it retains those carbon pieces.

    Here is a picture of our fuel system. The fuel leaves the cell, travels through a 5 Micron filter, goes in to a Tee, then we have 2 fuel pumps in parallel (only one running at a time). That travels back in to another Tee, that feeds into a 100 Micron Filter. Fuel then passes through the regulator, and from there either returns to the fuel cell, or goes up to the fuel rail. The stock LS is a non-return system, but because we use an external regulator it needs to be a return system.

    The Secondary latches are required by the rules for any door that still swings open.

    Couple questions.
    What body parts are carbon?
    Is the redundancy in the fuel system to be electrical, mechanical or both?
    Are the second latches for the doors due to a past problem of them not staying shut in a race?

    Hey Tony is this the same car that you guys ran in the baja recently?? What are you guys wanting to improve?? Looks like you've done some nice work so far. Now is this what a standard RF looks like as far as the mod's your highlighting?? I don't remember exactly from the one's I saw at SEMA, What is the name of the suspension setup your using on the rear with the trailing arms?? I know there a name for it. This looks like a really fun project!!  I noticed all of the LM's cut into the various parts, very cool!!

    I remember Buddy Crisp at SEMA showing me the structure and suspension of a trophy truck.  His wise comment was, "The Rally Fighter has the geometry, it just lacks the structure."  Of course he didn't mean that the Rally Fighter wasn't up to the task, but that compared to a trophy truck it has the same geometry.  It just needed to be beefed up to take on some serious beating.  It looks like you are doing some serious structure strengthening!  Just this past week I've been thinking about what it would take to beef up the Rally Fighter into one mean Fighter and here you had already started working on it! :)  Now I REALLY want one! Ha!
